My name is Julie and I am a 37 year old mom of two wild boys! When I began writing this, Number 1 was 2.5 years old and Number 2 was 15 months old and busier than I could ever imagine. They are almost exactly 16 months apart and while I’m sure every age gap presents challenges, these two have challenged me in ways I didn’t even know were possible. My husband, Hubs, we’ll call him, is a full time nurse so I am mostly a stay at home mom doing this parenting thing by myself quite often.
About once a week, I take a vacation day from parenting and I go to work. I am also a nurse and work 12 hour shifts as an Administrative Nursing Supervisor at a local hospital.
In addition to our boys, when Number 2 was 3 months old, we decided to get an 8 week old puppy who is now a 150 lb hairy, slobbery, dirty, ball of fun. I love our dog, but there are days when he is more stressful, and more work, than both the boys combined. I think we (by WE, I mean ME since it was MY idea to get a puppy) forgot how much work a puppy/dog is!
After telling many of my stories to family and friends, I was advised to write them down to 1) remember them and 2) share with others because they have likely been through similar things. There is so much happening when you have two toddlers close in age. I thought people might like to know how fun, exciting, and rewarding (read:challenging) life is with two toddlers.
For moms and dads who are in the same boat-whether it’s one toddler, two, or more-I thought it would be nice for you to know that you’re not alone. On the days and in the situations that you think you might not actually survive, you’ll come to find that so many other parents have been there, so keep the hope alive! And if no one reads this, that’s fine too! I will just have written proof why I have so many grey hairs!
I will just start with stories about where we are now and when I remember stories from when they were younger, I will add them as I go.
I love my boys, I really do, but being their mom is the hardest thing I have and will ever do! I am certain, if you are a parent of a child of any age, you can relate! Welcome to my journey!
